Barapullah Flyover Phase 3 Update: The major hurdle concerning the trees in the Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor project, which had caused years of delay, has finally been resolved. The Central Empowered Committee (CEC) has now granted final approval for the necessary tree-related clearances. As per the instructions of the CEC, a joint re-survey of the trees was conducted, clearing the path for the project's advancement after nearly a decade.

The PWD and Forest Department collected data related to geo-location, species of trees and their thickness and amended the plan so that maximum number of trees could be preserved. Under this, 161 out of 333 trees have been saved from being cut or shifted, and only 85 trees will be cut. These include trees which are on the verge of drying up. While 87 trees will be transplanted.

Phase-1 and 2 from Sarai Kale Khan to AIIMS had already been completed. Its total length is 7.75 km. Under Phase-3 of this project, work is being done to build 3.5 km from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar.

Out of these, 10 trees are on the verge of drying up, which will be cut, 34 will be transplanted, 111 will be preserved, that is, they will not be removed. Out of this, 107 will be lightly pruned. Similarly, a total of 178 trees are coming under the South Forest Division. Out of these, 75 are on the verge of drying up and are worth cutting. 53 will be transplanted and 50 will be preserved, these trees will not be cut. Out of these, 13 will be lightly pruned.

“Since taking over the charge, my focus has been on getting this clearance so that Delhiites can get the much-needed traffic relief. A positive attitude has been adopted by the CEC and the Forest Department during the joint survey and site visit. We have tried to save the maximum number of trees through pruning and transplantation. With this approval, we will now complete the remaining work at a fast pace. PWD will now immediately start pruning and transplantation work of trees under the supervision of the Forest Department. Regular updates will be released on the progress of the project, so that Delhi can gradually move towards a clean, safe and seamless urban transport system,” said Pravesh Verma, PWD Minister, Delhi Government, as quoted by jagran.com.
