Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India released the fourth supplementary voter list of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) on Sunday night.

According to a report by Jagran.com, citing sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bengal, the fourth supplementary list includes names of around two lakh people, although clear information has not yet been revealed about how many names of the 'under consideration' voters have been removed.

The report further suggests that the names of around 40 to 45 per cent of voters have been removed from the list.

It is worth noting that the final voter list after the SIR in West Bengal was published on February 28.

Subsequently, the first complete list of 'Under Adjudication' voters was released on March 23. After that, the three consecutive supplementary lists have been published in the last three days.

The second supplementary list was published late Friday night (February 27), the third on Saturday (February 28), and the fourth today (February 29).

Earlier, the commission officials had said that they had received the court's permission to publish supplementary lists daily. The voters whose names are excluded from the supplementary lists will have the chance to appeal to a tribunal.

The tribunal will put up the cases on an individual basis and will review them for further action.

The EC official had said that the "supplementary list" refers to an additional list, including the names of voters that are added after the publication of the final roll.

The supplementary lists cover newly enrolled voters, voters with corrections in details, and names restored after verification.
