Bengal SIR: EC Begins Publication Of Post-Revision Electoral Rolls; Over 1 Lakh Names Deleted In Bankura

Bengal SIR: The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday commenced publishing the post-SIR (Special Intensive Revision) electoral rolls in West Bengal. As per the initial figures, over 1 lakh names were deleted from Bankura district since the revision exercise began, reported PTI. As per the poll body, the total number of voters in Bankura stood at 30,33,830 when the SIR exercise began on November 4, 2025.

However, in the draft roll that was published on December 16, the number had come down to 29,01,009 after the revision. As per the poll body officials, the deletions were primarily due to death, migration, duplication and untraceability, while additions were processed after verification.

The Election Commission (EC) is likely to delete an additional eight lakh names over and above the 58 lakh voters previously removed in the state's draft rolls, taking the total SIR-induced deletions in West Bengal to around 66 lakh so far, PTI reported, citing sources.

Another 60.06 lakh names were categorised as 'under adjudication' in the published rolls, signifying those currently scrutinised by judicial officers whose inclusion or deletion will be determined in subsequent supplementary lists, the source added.

The SIR process in West Bengal began on November 4 in 2025 and the poll body took 116 days to provisionally complete the revision process. However, it faced several challenges, especially from the ruling party Trinamool Congress, that accused the EC of targeting the voters of the marginalised communities.
