Bengaluru News: A case has been registered against 23 senior students of a college in Devanahalli town, Bengaluru Rural district, over alleged ragging and assault of first-year students, police said on Saturday. Three of the accused have been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to trace the others.

The Times Of India report cited police as stating that, the complaint was filed by first-year BBA and BCA students who alleged that they were subjected to repeated harassment by senior students over the past few days. The juniors claimed they were forced to bring alcohol and cigarettes and were made to stand for long hours holding books as a form of punishment.

College Official Allegedly Attacked

After the affected students approached the college management, the institution’s administrative head, Midun Madhavan, attempted to look into the matter. Police said he was allegedly attacked by a group of senior students during the intervention.

Assault and Theft Allegations

Investigators said the accused seniors allegedly assaulted junior students using iron rods, stones and wooden sticks. During the incident, a gold chain belonging to one of the students was also reportedly snatched.

Case Registered, Arrests Made

A case has been registered at the Devanahalli Police Station under sections related to ragging, attempted murder and criminal intimidation. Police have arrested three students identified as Bilal, Zhiril and Mishal.

Police teams are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the remaining 20 accused students. Officials said further investigation is in progress to establish the sequence of events and identify individual roles in the incident.
