Bengaluru Banks Closed: Banks across Bengaluru, Karnataka will remain closed on Wednesday, April 30, due to the observance of Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, both these festivals are considered official bank holidays in the state.

Basava Jayanti celebrates the birth of Basavanna, a 12th-century philosopher, poet and social reformer. This festival holds special significance for the Lingayat community, particularly in Karnataka. On the same day, Akshaya Tritiya, an important Hindu festival, is celebrated. It falls on the third day of the month of Vaishakha and many believe that beginning new ventures or making investments, especially buying gold, on this day brings good fortune and prosperity.

Banks Closed In Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata

Banks in several cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata and Patna will also be closed on May 1. This closure is in honour of Maharashtra Day and International Labour Day. Maharashtra Day marks the state's formation in 1960, while Labour Day acknowledges the contributions of workers and advocates for their rights.

April Bank Holiday

April has seen several bank closures due to a combination of regional festivals and regular weekend breaks. April 26 was the fourth Saturday of the month, which is a non-working day for banks under RBI rules. April 27 was a Sunday, another regular holiday. On April 29, banks in Shimla were closed for Parshuram Jayanti, a holiday observed in some states.
