Belagavi-Bengaluru Route: In an effort to enhance connectivity between Belagavi and Bengaluru, the South Western Railways has announced a major operational overhaul, featuring revised schedules and additional services to ease congestion. All the changes are applicable from January 1, 2026.

The Belagavi-Bengaluru stretch of North Karnataka is one of the most crowded rail corridors in the country. Night trains running on this stretch often operate at near full capacity, while day trains see a heavy weekday rush of professionals working in the IT sector. According to officials, the operational overhaul replaces outdated timetables with a demand-driven schedule that better reflects current travel patterns.

Belagavi-Bengaluru Route: What Are The New Changes?

- The first major update on this route is the revised schedule of the Bengaluru-Belagavi Vande Bharat Express, which used to run six days a week.

- From January 1, this train will operate daily. The revised schedule of the Vande Bharat Express will allow business travellers and professionals who prefer same-day travel greater flexibility and also ease the pressure on express trains, which are currently overburdened.

- The timing of the Rani Chennamma Express has also been revised. The train will now depart from KSR Bengaluru station at 9:30 pm instead of the 11 pm slot.

- On the return journey, the train will depart Belagavi at 8:30 pm and arrive in Bengaluru by 6:15 am the following morning. For professionals, these timings align closely with the start of the workday.

- Besides revised train schedules, crucial infrastructure upgrades have also been implemented between Belagavi and Bengaluru. With the track doubling between Londa and Belagavi nearly finished, the railway can now optimise traffic flow and significantly reduce passenger wait times.

- Officials have said that this infrastructure upgrade is expected to reduce overall travel time by approximately 45 to 60 minutes on long-distance services.
