Bengaluru News: A 22-year-old architecture student from a private engineering college in Bengaluru died by suicide on July 11, reportedly due to ragging by fellow students. The incident took place at his residence in Nandaramayyana Palya, located under the Madanayakanahalli police station limits in Nelamangala.
The student, identified as Arun, was in the final year of his course and had earned a free seat through academic merit. Originally from Hassan, he came from a financially struggling family. His parents work as daily-wage labourers and Arun was also known for his talent in portrait art.
On the day of the incident, Arun was alone at home while his parents had gone to work. Before taking the extreme step, he recorded a video message in which he expressed emotional pain and mentioned being mentally affected by friends talking behind his back. He also blamed some of his peers, suggesting he had faced ragging.
According to a New Indian Express report, the video was shared in a college WhatsApp group and quickly went viral. After seeing the clip, college authorities informed his parents, who rushed home but found him dead by hanging.
