Bengaluru Double-Decker Flyover Update:  The much-anticipated double-decker flyover near Bengaluru’s Silk Board Junction is now in its final phase of construction, with full-scale operations expected to begin by December or early 2026, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited officials stated.

Once fully operational, the double-decker flyover will allow vehicles from HSR to merge near Ragi Gudda and continue toward BTM Layout, skipping the long, persistent ground-level congestion, Times of India reported.

Bengaluru Double Decker Flyover: Key Updates

- With the construction nearing completion, the construction teams have started installing steel girders to link HSR Layout with BTM Layout via the elevated flyover that passes over the infamous Silk Board traffic bottleneck.

- Last year, a portion of the flyover connecting Ragigudda to Silk Board was opened for the public, aiming to ease traffic congestion in one direction.

- However, the reverse routes remained unfinished due to construction challenges such as heavy traffic, limited nighttime work hours, and design modifications.

- The ramp from HSR to BTM Layout was slated to open in September, but due to engineering hurdles, especially related to the turning radius required, replacing a 42-metre concrete section with steel girders, causing further delays, the Times of India report added.

- Even after the flyover is fully operational and open to the public, traffic junctions below the double-decker flyover will remain in place.

- While the double-decker flyover near Silk Board Junction has alleviated some congestion, multiple vehicles still rely on the ground-level junction, Times of India quoted a traffic official as saying.

Meanwhile, commuters at the newly opened Silk Board Metro Station on the Yellow Line have raised concerns about the inadequate pedestrian infrastructure. A regular commuter told TOI that the lack of proper footpaths connecting the Metro station to the BMTC bus stop on Outer Ring Road (ORR) forces pedestrians to navigate unsafe crossings and unhygienic conditions.
