Bengaluru-based social media influencer Amiee shared a video on Instagram alleging that an Uber driver refused to drop her at her destination and even attempted to hit her. In the video, she tagged Uber India and criticised the company for lax background checks and poor driver conduct. The video quickly went viral, with many users sharing similar experiences and demanding improved passenger safety.

In the post, the woman detailed the ordeal, saying, “This is not the first or even the second time I’ve had a negative experience with an Uber driver.” She alleged the driver refused to drop her at the exact location she had entered in the app. “When I asked him to drop me at the designated point, he became aggressive, took a sudden U-turn, and attempted to drive back to where we had come from,” she wrote.

 In her post, Amiee alleged that the Uber driver refused to drop her at the designated location and grew aggressive when she insisted. The driver reportedly made a sudden U-turn, attempting to return to the original location. The situation escalated when she tried to note the vehicle’s registration number, and he allegedly tried to hit her. She also noted that the auto’s number plate did not match the one shown on the Uber app.

Uber Response 

Uber India responded to her post, and requested additional details to investigate the incident. "Hi Aimee, we are concerned to see this and would like to investigate. We've sent you a message requesting additional details, please check your direct messages so we can look into this," their reply read. 

Uber later issued an apology, refunded her fare, and assured that strict action would be taken against the driver.

Bengaluru Police Response 

The official handle of Bengaluru Police also took note of the incident. Commenting under her post, they said, “Please provide specific area details and your contact number.”

She thanked the Bengaluru Police for reaching out but opted not to file a complaint, stating that she did not want the driver to be jailed.

Natizens Reactions 

“Being a Banglorian I felt too bad for you, the auto driver who is in the video has to be punished,” one user wrote.

“There is a button in the app called ’panic’ or ‘emergency’ button. Next time use that,” suggested a user.

Another commented, "It was so dark...he could have dropped her to the point. Don't make this about kannada, malayalam or any other languages. Please stand for what is right. I have traveled so many times in the auto and most of the drivers are very understanding."
