Bengaluru News: A Bengaluru man on Monday pointed out a "new scam" where taxi drivers use an app similar to the Uber app to overcharge the customers. Amid several of the scam cases in the Silicon City, Mahesh Suthar on X stated that he was nearly scammed by a driver near Bengaluru airport.
Providing details, Suthar wrote that the app that the driver used was called Blumeter, which looks exactly like Uber. He added that the driver asked him to pay an extra amount of Rs 1,000, citing the fake app bill. He explained that he booked a Bengaluru airport taxi, and the driver used an app that resembled Uber.
However, he was left surprised when asked to pay an extra Rs 1,000 for the ride. When he asked for the justification from the driver, he stated that the extra charge was because of GST and the bill will only be generated after a month.

This dude showed me an exact replica of @Uber app when he started and ended the trip with 1000 bucks extra baked in.
Said the extra is because of GST and when I asked for the bill he said I’ll get it next month. So cute. pic.twitter.com/n3ijpp2TZP

He even explained the whole process by stating that the drivers show and click the ‘trip start’ button to build credibility. However, they end the trip on the same app, which usually shows a much higher amount. The users found this idea of a scam very innovative, yet dangerous. Many of them pointed out that these scams are very hard to trace, and people on a daily basis are falling into the trap of scammers.

Found the cab at the pickup point and was on the way home when that driver called again!!!! Then demanded parking charges. I disconnected the call." Another user questioned why the app was not reported to Google.
