Bengaluru Metro: Bengaluru’s long-discussed metro link to Kempegowda International Airport has received clearer timelines, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar outlining the updated schedule for the Namma Metro Blue Line. The planned corridor, running from Central Silk Board to the airport, is expected to ease pressure on the city’s crowded road network.

As per the revised plan, the first stretch between Central Silk Board and KR Pura is likely to open by December 2026, according to The Times of India report. This 19-km route is expected to support large numbers of commuters who travel daily between South-East Bengaluru and the Outer Ring Road technology zones.

Bengaluru Metro Update: KR Pura-Hebbal Section Set For 2027

The next part of the corridor, linking KR Pura and Hebbal, has been given a target of December 2027. This segment aims to improve public transport access for people travelling from areas such as Whitefield, Mahadevapura, and nearby neighbourhoods towards the northern parts of the city. The final section, which will take the metro from Hebbal to the airport, will offer air passengers a direct option to avoid Ballari Road congestion and reduce their reliance on taxis and airport buses.

Bengaluru Metro Update: Blue Line Project Scope And Cost

The Blue Line covers a total length of 58 km and has an estimated cost of Rs 15,000 crore. The project includes elevated tracks, underground sections and supporting depot facilities, making it one of Bengaluru’s largest metro undertakings.

Bengaluru Metro Update: PRR Land Compensation Steps Announced

Shivakumar also spoke about progress on the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project. He said the Bengaluru Development Authority will now transfer compensation directly to landowners to speed up acquisition. Five types of compensation have been proposed, including monetary payments, Transferable Development Rights, higher Floor Area Ratio, commercial plots, and alternate land parcels. Officials have described the package as flexible compared to those offered in other states.

The Deputy Chief Minister added that requests for denotification will not be considered, stating that pressure will not be allowed to delay infrastructure projects. With the metro deadlines set and land issues being addressed, the government aims to improve mobility across Bengaluru over the next two years.
