Bengaluru News: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Saturday has refuted the reports suggesting that the Yellow Line of the Metro is set to operate from January 6. The authority clarified that the news circulating on social media is not true and the first manufactured train from Kolkata is being rolled out on January 6.
“There is a news circulating on social media stating that the Yellow Line (RV Road to Bommasandra) is being opened for public on 6th Jan 2025. The actual fact is that the first train set manufactured at Titagarh Rail System Limited (TRSL) Kolkata for Namma Metro Yellow Line is being rolled out from this facility on 6th Jan 2024,” the statement from BMRCL stated.

The clarification from the metro authority came after Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya announced that the first driverless metro train will be ready to be dispatched to the Silicon City on January 6. The primary reason for the delay in commissioning the Yellow Line is said to be the unavailability of rolling stock.
“Titagarh has committed to deliver the second train by the end of January or first week of February and the third in April. Thereafter they will deliver 1 train per month and increase to 2 trains per month by September. I have also asked BMRCL to work parallel to get all…approvals in place, to prevent further delays on that count. I have requested Hon. MoHUA Minister to visit the manufacturing plant on 6th January, flag off the trains to Bengaluru and also inspect the plant to help further expedite things,” Surya had said.

The authority further informed that China's CRRC Corporation Ltd was given the contract to supply 216 new coaches for Bengaluru Namma metro. CRRC, in cooperation with TRSL, is making trainsets in India to comply with local manufacturing norms. The authority clarified that though CRRC has missed several deadlines, the trainset is set to reach Bengaluru's Hebbagodi depot by January 15.
