Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: Amid the long-standing demand of residents of Seegehalli Gate, Channenahalli, and Tavarekere in Bengaluru, deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has asked Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) to give a detailed project report (DPR) for extending the proposed Orange Line — Phase 3 of Namma Metro — from Kadabagere to Tavarekere village.
The second corridor of the Orange Line spans 12.5 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road, featuring nine stations.
“We have received directions from the Deputy Chief Minister and are looking into the process for preparing the DPR. The Orange Line was proposed as per the Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Bengaluru, which was prepared in 2020. This plan identified major travel corridors and recommended mass rapid transit systems for Phase 3,” said a senior BMRCL official, as quoted by a The Hindu report.
Namma Metro’s Phase 3 consists of two elevated corridors. The first is a 32.15-km line linking J.P. Nagar Phase 4 to Kempapura via the western side of the Outer Ring Road, featuring 21 stations. The second is a 12.5-km line along Magadi Road, connecting Hosahalli to Kadabagere, featuring nine stations.
The Phase 3 project was approved in 2024 by both the Karnataka government and the Union Cabinet at an estimated cost of Rs 15,611 crore. The Karnataka government will bear 80-85 per cent of the expenses, while the Union government will cover the rest.
Upon completion, Phase 3 will extend Bengaluru’s metro network by 44.65 km, bringing the total metro coverage in the city to 220.2 km.
