Bengaluru Namma Metro Update: In a major update regarding Phase 3, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has reportedly decided to commence the construction in June 2026. The construction was likely to begin in January 2026; however, it got postponed due to multiple reasons, including delays in permission from the concerned authorities. The officials stated that several pre-construction activities, including tree-cutting and land acquisition, have been delayed, leading to operational issues. Earlier last month, the authority stated that phase 3 will boost the regional connectivity by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.
The decision was reportedly taken in the ongoing meeting on the strategies for the ongoing and upcoming metro projects in the capital city of Karnataka. The authority also stated that the operation on phase 3 is likely to begin in May 2031, adding that it will expand the Namma Metro network to 222.2 km.
The third phase will improve the connectivity significantly, as it will connect several key regions of the city. While providing details, the officials stated that while the authority has got approval to remove 1,100 trees along Corridor 1's Package 1, it is yet to get permission for the second and third phases.
"We have received the necessary approvals and begun work," one of the officials was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald. The officials further stated that the authorities are expected to approve the requests for the second and third phases. "After enumeration, a tree expert committee will meet to review our requirement, and we will receive an official memorandum," the official added.
Earlier last month, the BMRCL stated that the Yellow Line has provided significant relief to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time. It further stated that the upcoming metro projects will further improve the connectivity in the silicon city.
