Bengaluru News: A masked intruder allegedly harassed a young woman and stole money after breaking into a women’s paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru. The incident took place around 3 AM on Friday at a facility near Gangotri Circle.
According to the police, the man was caught on CCTV entering the PG and locking several rooms from the outside before targeting one room. The woman was asleep when he walked in. She later told police that the intruder touched her inappropriately and threatened her with a knife when she tried to resist. He also scratched her legs and assaulted her before taking Rs 2,500 from her cupboard.
According to a NDTV report, the victim lodged a complaint with Suddaguntepalya police station soon after the incident. A case has been registered for trespass, sexual harassment, assault, and theft.
Police said search operations are under way to trace the accused, who has not yet been identified.
In separate news, a 45-year-old woman from Bengaluru, who had gone missing earlier this week, was found dead in the Souparnika River at Kollur in Udupi district on Saturday.
The deceased, Vasudha Chakravarthy, was a professional photographer recognised for capturing images at temples. She had travelled alone to Kollur on August 27 to visit the Mookambika Temple. After parking her car near a lodge, she went inside the shrine but was said to have behaved unusually before suddenly leaving the premises. Witnesses last spotted her running towards a nearby road.
Her mother, Vimala, grew worried after failing to reach her on phone and later lodged a missing complaint with the Kollur police. During the search, tourists informed authorities that a woman had jumped into the Souparnika River. Rescue teams, including police, fire personnel, divers, and locals, eventually traced Vasudha’s body tangled in bushes about three kilometres downstream. The body was handed over to her family after post-mortem.
