Bengaluru News: A tech professional in Bengaluru has shared her frustration after walking out of a job interview where she was asked to create the Indian flag and the Ashok Chakra using CSS, a programming language for web design.

In a post on Reddit, the user, who has ten years of experience in frontend technologies including Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML and CSS, expressed her disappointment with the interview process. She had applied for a position at a small company close to her home, expecting to face more relevant and challenging questions suited to her level of expertise.

“I anticipated questions that would reflect real-life scenarios or assess my coding skills through logical thinking and advanced concepts,” she wrote. However, the interview quickly took an unexpected turn after the interviewer began with theoretical questions about CSS.

After answering several theoretical questions, the interviewer requested that she draw the Indian flag using CSS. Although she found this request to be "completely absurd," she complied. The situation escalated when the interviewer then asked her to create the Ashok Chakra within the flag. She managed to do this as well, but when the interviewer insisted that she add spikes inside the Ashok Chakra, she decided enough was enough.

“I found myself questioning the interviewer about the relevance of such tasks for a frontend developer,” she stated. The interviewer explained that she wanted to test the candidate’s knowledge. However, the techie felt that such questions were more suited for college practical exams rather than a professional interview.

“Questions like this don’t make any sense for someone at my experience level. I got really irritated and chose to quit the interview,” she explained.

In her post, she called for interviewers to enhance their questioning skills and focus on more relevant topics based on the candidate's experience. Many Reddit users echoed her sentiments, expressing their frustration with being asked basic questions.

One user pointed out, “While this might be a useful question for freshers to gauge CSS knowledge, covering topics like absolute and relative positioning and pseudo-elements, it is completely unexpected and unnecessary for someone with a decade of experience. Time spent on this could be better used for more meaningful questions.”

Another user suggested that the interviewer might have been testing her temperament, implying that the unusual questions could have been intended to see how she reacted under pressure.
