The Bengaluru Traffic Police has issued an advisory announcing the closure of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) service lane due to ongoing metro construction by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The affected stretch, between 9th Main Road Junction and 5th Main Road Junction, will remain closed for 45 days starting October 6.

Bengaluru ORR Service Lane Alternative Route

Route 1: Take the 14th Main Road flyover and continue along the main carriageway to reach the 5th Main Road Junction.

Route 2: Divert through the internal roads of HSR Layout to proceed towards Silk Board Junction and Hosur Main Road.

Traffic authorities have urged commuters to follow the diversion routes, cooperate with instructions, and help maintain smooth traffic flow during the ongoing metro construction.

“The service road from 9th Main Junction to 5th Main on ORR Road has been used for the next 45 days for the construction of the Metro Station. There is a possibility of traffic congestion on ORR Road and motorists plying on ORR Road are requested to take alternate routes,” HSR Layout Traffic BTP posted on X.

In a separate development, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has identified key chokepoints between Hebbal and Silk Board along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and proposed measures to ease congestion. Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said addressing these spots could reduce traffic delays by nearly 20 percent.

Most congestion arises from poorly designed entry and exit points between the main carriageway and service roads. Joint Commissioner Karthik Reddy explained, “Vehicles exiting the main road often block the service lane, and at some points, entry and exit overlap, causing crisscrossing and pile-ups.” To resolve this, the BTP recommends separating entry and exit points by 100–150 metres at all identified locations.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will carry out the rectification work, expected to take one to two months. Additional suggestions include junction improvements, skywalk extensions, and ongoing pothole repairs to reduce pressure on the stretch.

Metro construction, however, continues to affect traffic. At Iblur Junction, BMRCL is drilling for three new pillars, reducing a four-lane road to two lanes, causing severe jams during morning peak hours. The work is expected to continue until November 30, affecting traffic from Madiwala to Iblur.
