Bengaluru Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday predicted that Bengaluru will experience record-breaking cold in the upcoming weekend. It stated that the cold wave in most of the northern states has resulted in a significant dip in temperature in Silicon City. The weather department further predicted that the residents of Bengaluru will experience a lowest minimum temperature of almost 10.2 degrees Celsius in comparison to the average minimum temperature of 15.8 degrees Celsius in the month of January. 

It also stated that the city will experience such cold after a decade. As per the IMD's historical records, the lowest minimum temperature ever recorded in the capital city of Karnataka is 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. Apart from this, the weather department also stated that the lowest temperatures recorded in Bengaluru in the month of January in the last 15 years are 12 degrees Celsius, that too on January 16, 2012, and then 12.3 degrees Celsius on January 15, 2019.

The weather department further informed that while the minimum temperature over the weekend can go as low as 10 degrees Celsius to 12.5 degrees Celsius, the average minimum temperature is likely to stay in the range of 15 degrees Celsius. The silicon city on Thursday recorded an average minimum temperature of 16.7 degrees Celsius.

“Minimum temperatures are likely to fall by 2°C for the next 2 days over Interior Karnataka and thereafter no large change in minimum temperature over Interior Karnataka. No large change in minimum temperatures in Coastal Karnataka,” the IMD stated on Friday.

“Fog/mist likely in early morning hours in some areas. Maximum and Minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 27°C and 15°C respectively,” it further stated for the areas nearby Bengaluru. The cold wave in northern states and snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand has resulted in a dip in temperature in several cities of Karnataka.
