Bengaluru Weather Update: Light Rain Likely Tomorrow, Day Temperatures To Remain Below Normal | IMD Forecast

Bengaluru Weather: Bengaluru is likely to receive light rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, even as daytime temperatures in the city have dropped sharply over the past two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. While night temperatures remain above normal, the fall in maximum temperatures has made the weather feel noticeably colder.

Cold Wave In North India Impacts Bengaluru

IMD officials said the dip in daytime temperatures is linked to a cold wave affecting parts of North India. At the same time, overcast skies in Bengaluru have kept minimum temperatures higher than usual. Over the last two days, minimum temperatures hovered around 18 degrees Celsius, which is about 2 degrees Celsius above normal.

The lowest temperature recorded on Monday was 16.6 degrees Celsius in Yelahanka, located near the city’s airport.

Bengaluru Weather: Rain To Keep Nights Warmer

The IMD said light rain recorded on Monday is likely to continue intermittently over the next two days. This rainfall is expected to prevent night temperatures from dropping further.

In its forecast for Bengaluru till Wednesday, the IMD said, “Partly cloudy sky. Fog or mist is likely during early morning hours in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 26 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius, respectively.”

When Does Bengaluru Get Its Coldest Days?

Bengaluru usually experiences its coldest winter mornings in the first half of January. In seven of the last 15 years, the city’s lowest January minimum temperatures have ranged between 12 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius.

IMD records show that the lowest temperature ever recorded in Bengaluru was 7.8 degrees Celsius on January 13, 1884. In recent years, the coldest January temperature was 12 degrees Celsius in 2012.

Last week, Yelahanka recorded a low of 12.7 degrees Celsius on January 7, while other parts of the city saw minimum temperatures between 12.5 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius.

The Makar Sankranti festival in mid-January is traditionally seen as the point when winter begins to ease in Bengaluru, paving the way for warmer days ahead.
