Bhajan Lal Sharma Profile: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday took oath as Rajasthan Chief Minister in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Sharma's two Deputy Chief Ministers Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa also were sworn in during the ceremony.

He was administered the oath as the new chief minister by governor Kalraj Mishra during a ceremony at Ramnivas Bag In Jaipur. He was appointed as the sarpanch of Atari village in 1994 at the age of 27 and has since then closely worked with the BJP. 

The 56-year-old first-time MLA has been the saffron camp's state general secretary for four times. Sharma also has been closely associated with the BJP idealogue Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the right-wing student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The new Rajasthan CM belonging to the Brahmin community is a native of Bharatpur. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced Bhajan Lal Sharma's name for the top post and said that his name was suggested by former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhare Raje. 

He was fielded from Sanganer Assembly constituency in Jaipur district for the Rajasthan Assembly elections, where he secured victory after defeating Congress candidate Pushpendra Bhardwaj by 48,081 votes.

"The legislature party meeting of the Rajasthan BJP was held today. Former Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje has proposed the name of Bhajanlal Sharma as the leader of legislative party, which was agreed upon unanimously," Singh said. 

Addressing a press conference, the CM-designate extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. " I would also thank former CM Vasundhara Raje for proposing my name (as new BJP legislature party leader)," says Rajasthan CM-designate Bhajanlal Sharma at a press conference in Jaipur," Sharma added. 

For the Rajasthan Assembly elections, the saffron camp had cancelled the ticket of sitting MLA Ashok Lahoti and put Bhajan Lal Sharma in the fray.

According to the affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India, Bhajan Lal Sharma who usually keeps a low-profile was revealed to be a postgrduate. He declared assets worth Rs 1.5 crore, which includes Rs 43.6 lakh in moveable assets and Rs 1 crore in immovable assets.
