Jagran Correspondent, Bhopal: The residents of Bhopal have been facing a severe water crisis for the past four days after the main pipeline of the Kolar Water Supply Scheme got damaged. As per the reports, at least 30 per cent of the population of the capital city is facing inconvenience due to the disruption in the water supply. While the authority assured that the repair works would be finished by Wednesday, the crisis continued even on Friday. The officials have urged the residents to avoid the rumours and keep following the guidelines.
As per the municipal officials, the repair work is likely to be completed on Friday, and the water supply will be normal by Saturday. The reports suggest that the main pipeline of the Kolar Water Supply Scheme, which is approximately 30 years old, had sustained damage in the Sankhedi area.
The damage affected the water supply to around 250,000 households in the city, leading to inconveniences and minor outrage. Earlier on Thursday, the repair work continued for the fourth consecutive day, leading to a water shortage in more than seven zones. As per the reports, several key regions of the city, including Chunabhatti, MP Nagar, Shahpura, Kolar, and Arera Colony, have witnessed the crisis for the past few days.
The authorities deployed 70 water tankers and claimed to have completed approximately 1,000 water supply trips over four days. However, the supply still remained inadequate, propelling the residents to buy water from private tankers at a higher cost.

While providing details, the officials assured that the water supply will be resumed after Friday afternoon, further advising the residents to stay updated. "Repairs to the Kolar Water Supply Scheme pipeline have been completed. It will still take more than 12 hours for the water to be filtered and reach households from the overhead tanks," Tanmay Vashishth Sharma, Additional Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, said.
"Water supply will resume on Friday afternoon. Water is currently being supplied to the city via tankers," he added.
