Bhupendra Jogi, the man who became an internet sensation for his meme, was brutally attacked in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on Tuesday night. The incident occurred as Jogi was returning home from his clothing store in Bhopal’s New Market area. He sustained severe injuries, necessitating 40 stitches and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The attack took place in the Malviya Nagar locality, where two masked assailants ambushed Jogi, inflicting deep cuts on his hands and shoulders before fleeing the scene. Passersby who witnessed the aftermath of the attack rushed Jogi to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing medical treatment.

Local authorities are yet to identify the attackers and the motive behind the brutal attack remains unclear so far. Police have registered a case against the unidentified people under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) at the Arera Hills police station and are scanning CCTV footage from the incident spot to identify the culprits.

The meme that brought Jogi fame featured the catchphrase, ''What is the name? Bhupendra Jogi'' and originated from a video shot during the 2018 Madhya Pradesh elections. It only went viral last year, propelling Jogi to social media stardom.

The incident drew attention from political circles as well, with former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recording a video with Jogi following his rise to fame. In addition to running his store, Jogi also manages a YouTube channel.
