Telangana News: A political controversy has erupted over the Christmas remark of the Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy. Drawing a connection between the occasion and Sonia Gandhi’s birthday month, Reddy called the celebration a political milestone. Telangana CM's remark came during a Christmas celebration gathering on Saturday.

Reddy’s comment drew a sharp reaction from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its spokesperson called it a ‘flattery’ move and accused the Congress of indulging in sycophancy and insulting the Christian community.

During his speech, Reddy also mentioned the new anti-hate speech rule of Karnataka, saying that Congress has already introduced a bill to punish hate speech against other religions.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla reacted sharply to his comment after it went Viral. “If sycophancy were a sport, Revanth Reddy would win the Olympic gold medal. He has crossed all limits of flattery by claiming that Christmas is celebrated because of Sonia Gandhi's sacrifice. This is nothing but an insult to Jesus Christ and the Christian community. This is what happens when one indulges in blind devotion to a family, when personal loyalty outweighs the public mandate...,” Poonawalla said.

What Did Revanth Reddy Say During Christmas Celebration

While addressing a Christmas gathering at LB Stadium (Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium), the Chief Minister stressed the importance of religious tolerance, saying that people must respect all religions while practising their own. Reddy called the month a ‘miracle month’, noting that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was also born in the same month.

Reddy said that December, which coincides with the birth of Jesus Christ, was also a “Miracle Month” for Telangana and the Congress party, noting that Telangana was accorded statehood in December and Sonia Gandhi was also born in the same month.
