Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on Friday, addressed a press conference in Kolkata. In his address, the Home Minister said that the BJP is set to win more than 110 seats out of 152 seats in Phase 1, following a voter turnout of 92.58 per cent.

"The BJP's Bengal team has conducted its assessment. Based on this, I can say that out of 152 seats, the BJP is likely to win more than 110. Taking the second phase into account as well, the BJP is set to form the government in Bengal," Amit Shah said.

The Home Minister affirmed that the ‘next CM of Bengal will be someone who was born in Bengal, educated in the Bengali medium and will be able to speak Bengali’. 

Addressing the conference, the Home Minister expressed confidence towards increased voter enthusiasm in the upcoming phase of the West Bengal Assembly Election, and asserted that ‘Anga, Banga and Kalinga’ would witness a BJP government after the results.

He further highlighted the BJP's responsibilities towards the state and promised that traders in West Bengal would be freed from ‘Bhatija or Bhaipo Tax’. Amit Shah said that the government, after coming to power, will prioritise an agricultural push and target corruption.

Targeting the Mamata Banerjee government, the Home Minister criticised the remarks about women’s safety and said that the BJP government’s top priority in the state would be women’s safety.

“I want to assure the mothers and sisters of Bengal that after the BJP forms the government, even late at night, no one will dare to threaten their safety,” he said.

Amit Shah further thanked the Election Commission and the security forces for ensuring the safety of voters, highlighting that it might be the first election with zero casualties. 

"I would like to thank the Election Commission, CAPF, and the Bengal Police, because after a long time, this was the first election where not even a single person lost their life. The elections were conducted peacefully," he said.
