The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress got involved in a clash over China's alleged territorial expansion in the area of Ladakh, following India's reaction to two new Chinese counties in Hotan prefecture. India on Friday lodged a “solemn protest" over the creation of counties, stating that they included areas in Ladakh.
External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in a press conference, acknowledged the formation of new “so-called counties" in China’s Hotan Prefecture. He stated that parts of counties fell in India's Union Territory of Ladakh. He further stated that India has lodged a protest with China.
“We have never accepted the illegal Chinese occupation of Indian territory in this area. Creation of new counties will neither have a bearing on India’s long-standing and consistent position regarding our sovereignty over the area nor lend legitimacy to China’s illegal and forcible occupation of the same. We have lodged a solemn protest with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels on this matter," Jaiswal said.

The Congress used the video of Jaiswal and shared it with the older video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he said that China has not taken even an inch of India. The grand old party stated that while China took India's land, PM Modi gave them the clean chit. However, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claimed that Congress has always lied about the issue of China, and the neighbouring nation took land from us when Jawaharlal Nehru was the prime minister of our country.
“Imagine blaming Prime Minister Modi for Nehru’s betrayal! Congress has the dishonesty to speak of Chinese annexation of Indian territory, despite the fact that all of it occurred during Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure as Prime Minister," Malviya said. “Congress cannot get away with such lies, even if Rahul Gandhi thinks otherwise," Malviya added. Congress and the BJP have accused each other of not speaking against China when it took India's land.
