Capt Fatima Wasim of Siachen Warriors created history as she became the First Woman Medical Officer to be deployed on an operational post on the Siachen Glacier. She has been deputed at the post located at an altitude of 15,200 feet.

Fatima underwent rigorous training at Siachen Battle School before being posted at the key strategic post of the Indian Army.

Earlier, Captain Geetika Koul from the Snow Leopard Brigade achieved the same milestone. She was also deputed in Siachen after completing the induction training at Siachen Battle School.

Siachen is located in the Northern part of the Himalayas and is a key strategic location for India. The place is known for its harsh climate and challenging terrain, which make survival difficult.
BSNL, however, established a new base transceiver station in Siachen to expand its mobile communication.
