A helicopter transporting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar and Additional Chief Election Officer of Uttarakhand, Vijay Kumar Jogdand, was forced to make an emergency landing in Pithoragarh district on Wednesday, according to ANI reports.

The Uttarakhand government confirmed that all persons on board were safe. The helicopter was en route to Munsiyari at the time of the incident. According to sources, an emergency landing had to be made due to bad weather. Preliminary information suggests that this helicopter is under the state government's jurisdiction.

Disaster Management Officer Bhupendra Singh Mehar, cited by TV 9, stated that on Wednesday, the Chief Election Commissioner and the Deputy Chief Election Officer of the state were travelling from Dehradun to Milam in Munsiyari for trekking.

On Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed the schedule for the Assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra. He confirmed that the Maharashtra Assembly Elections are set for November 20, 2024. The Jharkhand Assembly Elections will occur in two phases on November 13 and November 20. Additionally, a by-election will take place in Wayanad on November 13, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.

During the announced CEC Kumar also schooled pollsters over the mismatch between the exit polls and the actual results.

“In the last few elections, two things are happening simultaneously if we look at the entire canvas together… First, an exit poll comes – we don’t govern it… But there is a need for self-introspection, on what was the sample size, where was the survey done, how did the result come about and what is my responsibility if I did not match to that result, are there disclosures? – all of these need to be seen,” he said in the press conference.
