The Uttarakhand government officials on Saturday stated that four of the workers died amid the rescue operation. They further stated that 14 more workers out of 55 have been rescued and the operation to rescue 5 more trapped workers is ongoing. Apart from this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the updates related to the rescue operaion from CM Dhami over a phone call.

A government official stated that the Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami is continuously monitoring the situation, adding that more than 200 people are ready to be dispatched to the location.

The official informed that the operation was minorly delayed due to the poor weather. He further said that while 33 out of 55 people were successfully rescued until yesterday, 22 people still remain to be rescued. He stated that four helicopters have been arranged at the site to provide assistance to the officers, assuring that more facilities will be arranged if needed.

"One Mi-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force is on standby; once the weather clears, it will be here. The weather is clearing in Joshimath. We are setting up a helipad near Mana because our helipad is covered with snow. Snow-clearing operations are ongoing. We hope that after the helipad is prepared, the rescue and relief operations will further speed up...The rescue was halted at night because there was continuous snowfall," Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman informed.

"To ensure that there was no threat to rescue and relief teams, the operation was halted at night. It has resumed this morning...Our medical team in Joshimath is ready. They have all the necessary medicines...They have been briefed. Army, ITBP, BRO, NDRF, SDRF, Health Department, District Administration, Police Administration are working diligently," he added.

Earlier on Friday, an avalanche struck Mana village, trapping 57 workers engaged in construction work under an project of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The continuous snowfall in several regions of Uttarakhand has affected the traffic and lifestyle of the people residing in these areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday stated that several districts of Uttarakhand are expected to receive fresh spell of rain in the upcoming few days. The weather department stated that several districts, including Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Nainital are expected to receive rain on Saturday.
