Chennai Airport Summer Special Flights: Chennai Airport on Wednesday announced the launch of 206 additional flights under its "Summer Special" initiative to accommodate the expected rise in passenger traffic in the upcoming months. While announcing the initiative, the authority stated that 42 international and 164 domestic service flights will operate to accommodate the passengers. It further stated that the additional flights will provide great significance to the passengers traveling from and to the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

The authorities stated that the number of passengers has increased dramatically in the past few days as the schools and colleges are closing for the summer vacation. It further stated that the number of passengers is likely to increase even more in the next few days as a large number of people fly to the city for leisure or to visit hometowns in the vacation months.

While providing details, the authority informed that while the Chennai airport usually sees around 50,000 passengers on a daily basis, the number is likely to exceed 55,000 in the upcoming weeks.

Flights Increased For Sri Lanka, Other Nations

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) stated that the additional domestic and international flights are being operated from the city to meet the increasing demands. While Air India has increased its weekly flights to Sri Lanka from 7 to 10, SpiceJet has also announced the operation of 7 new weekly flights on the same route. They stated that the number of flights to Sri Lanka has increased as a large number of Tamil people reside in Sri Lanka.

Alliance Airlines on Wednesday resumed its operation from Chennai to Jaffna, stating that seven flights have been allocated on this route on a weekly basis. The flight operation on this route was suspended due to poor weather conditions. Apart from this, Air India Express announced that it has increased the weekly flights to Kuwait from 5 to 7, adding that the flights to Muscat have also been increased from 1 to 2.
