Chennai Peripheral Ring Road Update: The Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) phase III construction work from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur was officially inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday, May 1.

This multi-crore infrastructure project would connect the trade points of Ennore and Mahabalipuram, bypassing the city traffic.

The state Highways and Minor Ports Department is in charge of the project. It will connect major locations including Singaperumal Koil, Tiruvallur, and Sriperumbudur across a total distance of 133 kilometres.

As part of the Chennai Border Road Project, the Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated the construction of a new six-lane road that would span around 30.10 km from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur, with service lanes on each side. The project will cost Rs 2,689.74 crore.

State Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports Minister E V Velu, Minorities Welfare Minister S M Nasar, and other officials attended.

The 133-km-long Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) running from Ennore Port to Poonjeri, near Mamallapuram, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Earlier, sources in the Highways Department, cited by The Hindu, said that the work had been progressing well on the 30.8-km stretch from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur.

“As part of the project proposal, we have to provide two-lane wide service lanes for the entire length of the road for use by local traffic. This has to be built in this stretch and the land acquisition for this is on. Since lands belonging to a reserved forest falls in the alignment, the proposal for swapping the land is being processed,” explained an official as quoted by The Hindu.
