Chennai Power Cut May 17: Chennai residents are advised to take note of a scheduled power cut on Thursday, May 17, from 9 AM to 2 PM. According to TANGEDCO, the outage is required to carry out essential maintenance work. Power will be restored earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule.

In separate news, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to install 400 CCTV cameras, equipped with artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology, to address rising complaints about open dumping. This initiative will cost ₹3.63 crore.

Tenders have been issued for cameras to be placed at key dumping hotspots, 109 processing centres, and the Kodungaiyur and Perungudi dump yards. The cameras will monitor activities, detect irregularities, track employee attendance, and alert authorities about incidents like fires. Each dump yard will have at least 20 cameras, enhancing surveillance and accountability in waste management.

A GCC official stated that camera usage will be tailored to meet the needs identified by higher authorities. The project is set to be completed within 60 days of the contract signing, followed by a year of operational support and maintenance to ensure effective monitoring.
