Officials have said supply will resume by 2 PM and may be restored earlier if the work finishes ahead of time.
Chennai Power Cut: Affected Areas
The areas affected fall under Redhills and Sembium limits. In Redhills, localities including Sothuperumbedu, Giruthalapuram, Budhur, Arumanthai, Vichoor, Mettupalayam, Kandigai and Vellivoyal will face a temporary shutdown.
In Sembium, the power suspension will cover Kattabomman Main Road, Jambuli Street, MH Road, Venkateswara Colony (1st to 10th Street), Moolakadai, RV Nagar, Annai Sathya Nagar, Arul Nagar Main Road, Seetharam Nagar, MRL Colony, Kamarajar Salai, Rizwan Road, Periyar Nagar and the Simpson Group of Companies area.
TANGEDCO has asked residents, shopkeepers and those working from home to plan their activities in advance to manage the outage.
In separate news, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has announced that all bus operations and the monthly pass counter at Avadi bus terminus will be temporarily relocated starting September 14 to allow redevelopment work at the site.
According to an MTC statement, the Avadi terminus is undergoing modernisation under a Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) initiative aimed at creating a more modern and commuter-friendly facility. With construction now underway, buses that usually start from the existing terminus will operate from a temporary facility set up on MTH Road, approximately 100 metres across from the current terminus.
The corporation also confirmed that the monthly season ticket counter will be shifted to the same temporary location, ensuring that passengers can continue to purchase passes without disruption. MTC has requested commuters to take note of the temporary arrangements and plan their journeys accordingly while the redevelopment work is in progress.
