Several schools in Chennai on Thursday received bomb threat emails, prompting the authorities to evacuate students and close the institutions. The police reached the schools with bomb disposal squads. 

The police conducted anti-sabotage checks and students of these schools were sent back home with their parents. Meanwhile, the police have urged people not to panic and said that action is being taken to identify those who sent the bomb threat e-mails.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the Greater Chennai Police wrote, “Bomb threat e-mails were received at a few educational institutions in GCP limits. GCP/BDDS teams have been sent for Anti-Sabotage Checks in these educational institutions and action is being taken to identifying the culprit who sent these e-mails. Public is requested not to panic.”


The Chennai Public School in DAV Gopalapuram and St Mary's School in Parrys were reportedly among the schools that received bomb threat emails.

Earlier in January this year, Washington DC found itself in chaos and panic as the city grappled with the aftermath of receiving hundreds of bomb threats via email. The bomb threats targeted various prominent schools. Following this, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) immediately responded to the situation and imposed widespread lockdowns.
