Chennai-Tiruvannamalai Expressway: In a major update for the commuters, the Tamil Nadu government is reportedly planning to build an expressway between Chennai (Oragadam) and Tiruvannamalai via Cheyyar. The officials stated that the key project will boost the regional connectivity by linking the industrial zones to the residential areas. It will also provide relief to thousands of residents by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion. Along with improving the connectivity, the expressway will also boost tourism and financial activities.

While providing details, the officials stated that the 140-km greenfield expressway will halve the travel time from Chennai to Tiruvannamalai. While the travel time between the two cities is currently four hours, it will be further reduced to two hours after completion of the project. Apart from this, the expressway will also significantly cut freight travel time from SIPCOT and other industrial belts in several regions to Kattupalli and Ennore ports.

The officials further stated that the project will also boost tourism to Tiruvannamalai, leading to a boost in the economy in the nearby regions. They further stated that land acquisition for the first stretch is already in the final stage, adding that the tendering process will take two to three months.

"Land acquisition for the 68-km Oragadam-Cheyyar stretch is already in an advanced stage. Once the acquisition is completed, the tendering process will commence, which may take another two to three months. For Phase II, administrative approval for land acquisition is still awaited," a state highways official was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express.
