Chennai Weather Today: Chennai and neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu witnessed mild to moderate rainfall on Wednesday morning bringing much-needed respite to the residents from prevailing heatwave-like conditions. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and steady rain are expected to continue until noon on April 16. Areas likely to be affected include Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu. The weather body added that Chennai will experience a maximum temperature of 36-37 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius. The IMD also issued a weather advisory, cautioning residents about possible waterlogging and slippery roads in some localities, which could lead to disruptions in traffic flow.

Residents in Chennai have been struggling to tackle the stifling afternoon heat. Meteorologists noted that sea breeze, a source of relief from peaking temperature, brings in moisture and increases humidity level in the coastal belt. Weather blogger Chennai Rains, in a post on X, stated that with rains gradually slowing down over the Peninsular East coast with Thunderstorms sticking to the Ghats we can expect an increase in day temperatures from today, April 16. The regional weather agency claims that Chennai weather is expected to be around 37-38 degrees Celsius with minimum temperature predicted to be around 28 degrees Celsius.
