Chennai Weather: Chennai is set to witness light rainfall over the next few days, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasting wet weather to continue till June 23, 2025. As the southwest monsoon advances over Tamil Nadu, Chennai and surrounding areas are expected to remain under cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rain and occasional thunderstorms.
According to the latest weather bulletin, the minimum and maximum temperatures in Chennai are expected to hover around 29 degrees C and 37 degrees C respectively, with humidity levels reaching up to 65 per cent . Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are likely across the region.
The RMC has predicted rainfall activity across several districts in Tamil Nadu, especially in areas along the Western Ghats, which could experience heavier showers through the weekend. Districts forecast to receive rain include Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Karur, Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, and Pudukottai.
On June 19, the highest temperature of 38.8 degrees C in Tamil Nadu was recorded at Chennai and Madurai airports, while Karur Paramathi noted the lowest minimum temperature at 22.0 degrees C in the plains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for June 20 in most parts of Chennai, warning of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds, excluding districts like Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, and Thoothukudi.
For June 21, a yellow alert remains in place, though no specific warnings have been issued. By June 23, the weather department expects no severe weather events, suggesting conditions may gradually improve.
Residents are advised to carry umbrellas, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay updated with local weather alerts.
