Chennai Weather:  Chennai experienced its lowest night temperature of the season at 20.3°C on Wednesday. In addition, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain warning for the city, with showers expected to persist over the coming days.

According to the weather department, Chennai will experience fog on Thursday morning, with cloudy skies for the remainder of the day. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 31°C, while the minimum will be around 21°C. This weather pattern is expected to continue on Friday.

Starting January 11, rain and thunderstorms are anticipated and this trend is likely to persist until January 14. During this period, the maximum temperature will hover around 30°C, with the minimum fluctuating between 22°C and 23°C.

On January 6, Meenambakkam recorded a temperature of 20.7°C, as per Times Now. However, the lowest temperature ever recorded at this monitoring station was 15.7°C on January 27, 1969. Meanwhile, the Nungambakkam observatory, which covers the central areas of Chennai, recorded a temperature of 21°C, which is approximately 0.7°C lower than usual. The minimum humidity level at this station was 60 per cent, reflecting its proximity to the coast. The average minimum temperature in Chennai for January is 21.5°C.

North India Weather Update

The cold wave and fog continued to affect northern India and the severity of the cold increased on Wednesday. In the Kashmir Valley, the night temperature remained below freezing point in most areas. In some parts of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, the temperature reached close to the freezing point.

The Meteorological Department predicts that the temperature may drop further in some areas in the coming days. However, in the capital city of Delhi, the afternoon sunshine provided some relief to the people. Due to a Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in parts of northwest India towards the end of the week.
