Security forces on Monday arrested 13 Naxalites, including one with a reward of Rs 1 lakh, in two different operations in Bijapur district, PTI reported citing an official. Seven ultras were captured from the forest close to Tekmetla village within the Usoor police station jurisdiction, while six others were detained within the Basaguda police station area.

"The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and local police were involved in these actions. Those held from Usoor were involved in triggering an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in November 2022 in which a CRPF jawan was injured. The others were involved in the murder of two civilians at separate places here in October last year," the official said.

This came a day after 50 Naxalites, including 14 with a cumulative reward of Rs 68 lakh on their heads, surrendered in Bijapur. The surrender was announced minutes before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was set to arrive at the Raipur airport for his visit.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the surrender of Maoists, adding that Naxalism will become history in the country after March 31, 2026, and it was their resolution.
