Chhattisgarh: Denied Road For Years, Villagers Collect Money To Build It Themselves In Mohla District

Jagran Correspondent, Chhattisgarh: In a rare display of grit and resilience, the residents of Chhattisgarh's Mohla district are building a road by themselves after being neglected for over two decades. As per the reports, the road gets blocked during the monsoon due to the waterlogging. The village gets separated from the main district, leading to inconveniences, especially to the elders and children. The administration, despite giving assurances, did not build the road, leading to frustration among the villagers.

The report suggests that the residents of Dakkotola, a village in Khursitikul Gram Panchayat, have been demanding a proper paved road for two and a half decades. However, they decided to build the road by themselves after their requests got rejected several times. The road is crucial for the village, as the monsoon is soon likely to hit the state, leading to heavy rainfall and waterlogging.

As per the reports, the only road leading to Dakkotola village has been damaged for the past several years. The residents complained that the road gets filled with mud and water every year with the arrival of monsoon. They further alleged that the administration ignored their plea despite being aware of the situation.

The locals further stated that school children, pregnant women, and senior citizens are severely affected as travelling on the road becomes extremely difficult due to the waterlogging. Ahead of the monsoon's arrival, the villagers decided to build the road rather than wait for the approval from the authorities.

While reacting to their effort, the district administration appreciated their effort and assured necessary departmental action for the construction of a paved road soon. However, the villagers stated that they will not wait for the authorities until any concrete decision is taken. They further stated that the road is likely to be completed in a few weeks, adding that it will provide major relief to the locals.
