Congress leader Husain Dalwai has echoed PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks on the November 10 Red Fort blast and said the incident may be linked to the “injustice” faced by people in Jammu and Kashmir. His comments drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accused the Opposition of giving political cover to terrorism.
Speaking to ANI, Dalwai said the Delhi explosion “appears to be an act carried out by terrorists” and claimed that Mufti’s concerns were justified. “I think it was terrorists only who were involved in the incident in Delhi. What Mufti ji has said is right. This must have happened due to the injustice meted out in Kashmir,” he said. He added that the government should reduce mistrust and hold talks. “It was always wrong for the government to create an atmosphere that targeted a particular community. The government should hold a dialogue.”

Dalwai also questioned the role of groups involved in violence. “Does RSS believe in Gandhi ji’s non-violence? All those organisations which believe in violence should be probed,” he said. In a separate comment, he asked why blasts take place around election time. “Why are there bomb attacks around elections? This should be probed. This could also be the repercussion for the injustice in Jammu and Kashmir,” he stated.
The November 10 blast near the Red Fort killed 12 people according to initial reports, while some later accounts put the number at 15. The explosion occurred when a car stopped at a red signal on a busy road near the monument.
Mehbooba Mufti had earlier accused the Centre of failing to maintain national security. Addressing a meeting in Srinagar, she said the attack showed that the “troubles of Kashmir echoed right in front of the Red Fort”. She also questioned the government’s approach towards young people in the region, asking, “If a well-educated youth, a doctor, kills himself and others by strapping RDX to his body, it means there is no safety in the nation.”
The BJP reacted sharply to both leaders. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Opposition of “normalising and rationalising terrorism” for votes. “In the name of vote bank, the ‘aatanki bachao gang’ is back at work again,” he said.
BJP leader Nalin Kohli said Mufti must clarify whether she stands against terrorism. “There is no middle path as far as these terrorists are concerned,” he said.
Responding to Dalwai’s remarks on the RSS, author Sangit Ragi said the accusation was “vile” and “ridiculous”, adding that the organisation’s work in Kashmir was focused on social welfare.
