New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: With 1,334 new COVID-19 cases in India in the last 24 hours, the tally has crossed the 15,000-mark and reached 15,712, as per the information available at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

According to the Health Ministry data, the death toll has also crossed the 500-mark and is currently at 507 while adding that 2,231 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals across the country.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state in the country. The COVID-19 death toll in the state has reached 211 with 3,651 confirmed cases of the infection. Maharashtra is followed by Madhya Pradesh which has reported 70 deaths while Gujarat and Delhi have reported 53 and 42 COVID-19 fatalities respectively.

Telangana has reported 18 deaths while Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have reported 15 deaths each. Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka have reported 14 fatalities while Punjab, West Bengal and Rajasthan have reported 13, 12 and 11 deaths respectively.

Five deaths have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir while Haryana and Kerala have reported three fatalities each. Bihar and Jharkhand have reported two COVID-19 fatalities while Odisha, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh and Assam have reported one death each.

The number of cases of the novel coronavirus have surged at an alarming rate. Amid the spiking number of cases, Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday held a review meeting with top officials to take stock of the current COVID-19 situation across states and Union Territories.

During the meeting, he was apprised about the steps taken by the home ministry to provide support to migrant workers who are stranded in different parts of the country.

Shah also reviewed the working of a 24x7 control room set up to monitor the coronavirus pandemic and coordinate with states and union territories.
