Amid the rise in the Covid-19 cases across India in past few days, a female student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University has tested positive for the infection. Following the development, the university administration has issued an advisory for the students.

The university has also issued helpline numbers. The victim student has been kept in isolation and her condition is normal.

The advisory issued by the JNU administration stated that given the information of Covid cases in the university campus and keeping in mind the well-being and safety of students, staff and those living on campus, all concerned have been requested to take precautions to prevent the spread of the infection. "Everyone has been advised to wash or sanitize hands frequently, wear masks in public, maintain personal hygiene," the university advised.

Deans of schools and heads of special centers have been advised to form a Covid monitoring committee at their respective levels. So that effective implementation of these precautionary measures can be ensured.

The Chief Medical Officer, Health Center and Security Branch of the University are directed to provide adequate information and make the field staff aware.

The university urged the employees and students to inform the administration immediately if any of their family member tests positive for Covid their respective warden (in case of students) and the health centre.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) had written a letter to the vice-chancellor after a Covid case was reported.

The JNUSU demanded setting up of Covid Care Centres (as directed by the Delhi Court in 2021), providing medical supervision, testing and supplies for affected students and emergency sanitisation of hostels and campus areas.

Recently, JNUSU discussed the current status of Covid-19 on campus and the precautionary measures being taken with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the university about .

The CMO informed that home isolation is the main protocol for the current Covid positive cases, hence there is no need for a separate isolation ward at this time. The future steps will be taken based on the situations.
