Chennai Airport Flight Cancellation: Flights operating from Chennai Airport and connecting the city with southern districts and parts of Kerala and Karnataka have faced major operational disruption on Saturday.
Authorities at Chennai Airport confirmed that 54 flights have been cancelled on Saturday as Cyclone Ditwah intensifies over the Bay of Bengal and moves steadily towards the Tamil Nadu coast.
The airport authorities said the cancellations were necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and aircraft, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu in the next 48 hours.

Both departures and arrivals have been affected, and the airlines have issued advisories to passengers to avoid last-minute travel to the airport.
Cyclone Ditwah Update
The cyclone Ditwah, which is currently positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Sri Lankan coastline, is likely to move towards northwestwards and cross the north Tamil Nadu–Puducherry region in the coming days.
The wind speed is expected to rise further as the storm has strengthened into a severe weather system.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across Chennai and neighbouring districts starting Saturday morning.
The weather office has warned of likely disruptions to road and rail traffic, power supply, and other essential services due to the severe weather conditions.
