Mumbai Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has clarified that the city is not under any immediate threat from a cyclone and no warning has been issued regarding the same. It also urged residents to not create an atmosphere of panic or spread rumours of an impending cyclone hitting the coast. As per the weather experts, Mumbai is expected to experience dry conditions, with a light rain warning issued for nearby areas like Raigad.
Mumbai Weather Forecast For Next 7 Days
On May 24, Mumbaikars will witness clear skies. However, on May 25, the sky is expected to become partly cloudy. May 26 will see a continuation of partly cloudy conditions, with occasional sunlight. Clear skies will return on May 27, ensuring pleasant weather for the city. May 28-29 will see cloudy skies as predicted by the weather body.
Remal Cyclone Latest Update
IMD has issued a warning that a cyclone named 'Remal' is expected to form over the east central Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25. This will be the first cyclone in Bay of Bengal during the pre-monsoon season. According to IMD, the cyclone could reach a wind speed of 102 kilometres per hour on Sunday, posing a threat to the coastal areas. While its trajectory initially points northward, no confirmed landfall has been predicted. However, it is unlikely to affect Mumbai or the west coast, as per a report by TOI.
According to IMD scientist, the low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal has moved northeastwards and now lies over the west central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal. The system is set to concentrate into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by Friday morning and further intensify into a cyclonic storm by Saturday morning.
Cyclone Remal News: Severe Cyclonic Storm To Reach West Bengal
The cyclone is predicted to reach Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coast as a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening, bringing with it a potential widespread rain in south Bengal, including Kolkata, from Saturday. While the city may escape with moderate rain, heavy showers are likely to affect some districts, including North and South 24-Parganas and East Midnapore, on Saturday, the day the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections are scheduled. According to IMD Bulletin, "Under favourable synoptic conditions and strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, thunderstorms with lightning, along with gusty winds, are likely to affect districts of Bengal."
