Cyclone Shakti Update: The southwest monsoon has advanced into parts of Bay of Bengal, south Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and a few areas of north Andaman Sea on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A weather official, cited by Mint, said that a cyclone is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal.
Bangladeshi meteorologist Mostafa Kamal Palash, in his official Facebook account on Sunday, warned of a possible cyclone brewing over the Bay of Bengal. He said that, a cyclonic circulation forming between May 16-18 could intensify into a cyclone by May 23-28.
Polash wrote that the potential cyclone will be named 'Cyclone Shakti', a name proposed by Sri Lanka.
According to him, the potential cyclone could make landfall between May 24-26 and might affect India's Odisha coast and Bangladesh's Chattogram coast.
Parts of West Bengal may also receive heavy showers and gusty winds due to its impact.
However, the IMD has yet to confirm the formation of a cyclone. It is still unclear if this storm will grow into a cyclone.
