Chennai Weather Update: According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, Tamil Nadu will witness heavy rain activity starting May 14. Western Ghats and interior regions of the state are likely to be affected for three consecutive days. In areas like Chennai, daytime temperatures are likely to be two to three degrees Celsius above normal. Humidity will add to the discomfort. However, a slight dip in temperature is expected from May 14, Wednesday. According to RMC, pre-monsoon developments in both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are the reasons behind the rain.

The highest maximum temperature on Monday in Tamil Nadu was recorded at Madurai airport (41 degrees Celsius). Erode and Karur Paramathi also crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark.

Districts along the Western Ghats - including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Salem, and Tiruvannamalai are likely to receive heavy rainfall on May 14, news agency IANS reported. Showers may continue in isolated areas, especially in Tirupattur and Krishnagiri, through Thursday and Friday.

As per the weather body, scattered rainfall will occur in Tamil Nadu till May 18. Thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are also likely in some regions. Southwest Monsoon is likely to hit Kerala on May 27. This activity could further pace rain activity in Tamil Nadu.
