Bengal Weather: As per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Kolkata, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to hit Kolkata and surrounding districts in the next few days. The showers will be triggered by major weather development in the Bay of Bengal. The low pressure system is likely to form over the east-central part of the sea. Eastern India will see widespread rainfall as a result. There will be no large change in day temperature (maximum temperature) over the districts of West Bengal during next four to five days and thereafter gradual fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius during subsequent two to three days, as per the weather body.

“Mainly dry westerly to north westerly wind likely to prevail at lower levels over the region and consequently hot & humid conditions likely over the districts of South Bengal and Heat Wave condition likely over some districts of West Bengal," IMD Kolkata said.

“A trough runs from Central parts of Bihar to south Jharkhand and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. Also in view of availability of moisture and heating impact, possibility of enhanced thunderstorms with heavy rainfall activity over some districts of North Bengal and isolated thunderstorm activity over some districts of South Bengal,” the weather body added.

South Bengal Weather

May 13: Heatwave conditions likely to occur at one or two places over West Burdwan, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Birbhum and Purulia districts. Hot and Humid weather conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of South Bengal.

Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 40- 50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of East and West Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia and Jhargram districts.

May 14: Heatwave conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over West Burdwan, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Birbhum and Purulia districts. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 40- 50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad districts.

May 15: Heatwave conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over West Burdwan, Bankura, Jhargram, West Midnapore and Purulia districts. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over rest districts of South Bengal.

Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 50- 60 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Murshidabad, Birbhum, Nadia and East Burdwan. Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 40- 50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of West Burdwan, Jhargram and West Midnapore.

Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 30- 40 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bankura, Purulia, East Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata and North and South 24 Parganas.

May 16: Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 50- 60 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Murshidabad, Birbhum, Nadia and East and West Burdwan.

Thunderstorm with lightning with light to moderate rainfall along with gusty wind (speed reaching 40- 50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts.

North Bengal Weather

May 13: Thunderstorm, lightning with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) and gusty wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar districts.

Thunderstorm with lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts. Hot and Humid weather conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malda.

Thunderstorm with lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts.

May 15: Heatwave conditions are likely to occur at one or two places over Malda district of North Bengal. Thunderstorm with lightning with heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) along with gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar districts.

Thunderstorm with lightning, light to moderate rain and gusty wind (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts.

Kolkata Weather Forecast

In Kolkata and surrounding districts, residents will get respite from the sweltering heat. Temperatures are likely come down by two to four degrees Celsius. However, in view of heavy rainfall, residents are likely to face waterlogging and power outages in some areas.
