GRAP-1 In Delhi: Delhi’s air quality has taken a turn for the worse ahead of winter, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 211, falling into the 'poor' category. In response, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has convened an emergency meeting and decided to implement the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 1 immediately.
What Is GRAP-1?
GRAP is a set of measures designed to tackle air pollution in a phased manner, depending on the severity of the situation. GRAP-1 is triggered when the AQI reaches 201-300, and includes the following restrictions and measures:

- Road and Construction Activities: Regular mechanical cleaning of roads and water sprinkling will be mandatory. Construction sites will be required to implement dust control measures, such as covering building materials and water sprinkling.
- Fuel and Industry-Related Restrictions: Hotels, restaurants, and roadside eateries will be banned from using coal and wood. Diesel generators will also be restricted, except for essential services. Industries, brick kilns, and power plants will be required to adhere to strict emission control standards.
- Waste Management and Vehicle Control: Burning waste in open areas will be strictly prohibited, and action will be taken against those found violating the rules. Vehicles causing pollution will be strictly penalised, with the transport department and traffic police conducting special monitoring.
The authorities have appealed to citizens to use public transport as much as possible and minimise the use of private vehicles. Citizens are also urged to avoid activities that generate dust and pollution.
