Delhi Ashram Scandal: A lookout notice has been issued against Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati for allegedly harassing 17 female students at a private institute in Delhi, police said on Wednesday.
“A lookout circular (LOC) has been issued against him to prevent any attempt to flee the country," news agency PTI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel as saying.
The officer further stated that multiple police teams are conducting raids across Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand in connection with the case. According to a Hindustan Times report, Swami Chaitanyananda, the former head of a private management college in Vasant Kunj, has been on the run for over a month. The college management has accused the “godman” of “illegal, inappropriate, and detrimental” activities.
“As a result...[institution] has severed all ties with him...and lodged complaints with the relevant authorities regarding illegal acts committed…,” the college management said in a statement. Goel on Wednesday said that the college administrator filed a complaint against Saraswati on August 4.
In the complaint, the private institute accused the self-styled “godman” of sexually harassing female students enrolled in scholarship courses for economically weaker sections. “Statements of 32 female students were recorded, of which 17 alleged they received obscene WhatsApp messages from the accused, who also used abusive language,” Goel said.
The female students have accused Saraswati of sexual harassment and unwanted physical touch. “The students claimed that women faculty and administrators pressured them to comply with his demands.”
