In the latest development in the Delhi bus gang rape, the victim pleaded to the accused men to let her go and said that her children were waiting for her at home. The woman was gangraped by two men on a private bus earlier this week.

The two accused have been identified as Umesh Kumar and Ramendra Kumar, both in their late 30s and originally from Uttar Pradesh. "They have been arrested and sent to judicial custody," said police.

What Did The Victim Say?

The woman (30) had gone to her brother's house in Sultanpuri on the day to help him with the shifting of houses. While returning home, she boarded a rickshaw to Saraswati Vihar on the Outer Ring Road.

According to the victim, she was standing at the bus stop at around 12.05 am when a bus stopped. She asked a man standing inside what the time was. To which the man called her inside the bus. As the lady entered the vehicle, she realised that only three people were inside it, including herself. The man pushed her to the back of the bus and raped her.

At Nangloi Railway Station, they parked the bus, and the driver raped her. After this, the woman pleaded with the two accused to let her go and said that she wouldn't disclose the incident to anyone. “I told them what’s done is done, and I will not take any action against them. That’s why they let me go. I then called the police,” the Hindustan Times quoted the victim as saying.

The driver then left the spot with two or three other men. However, Umesh was still present at the spot. The police took Umesh into custody, and the victim was taken for medical examination at a government hospital in Pitampura.

The woman did not get admitted, as her husband was unwell and the daughters were waiting. The woman lives with her husband, 30, and three daughters aged 4, 6, and 9.

The Findings Of Police

The vehicle has tinted windows, heavy curtains, and no location tracker. According to the police, these are against the rules and guidelines. In 2012, the Supreme Court prohibited the use of black films or any other material (such as curtains or mesh) upon safety glass, window screens, and side glass of all vehicles. In 2016, the ministry of road transport and highways issued a notification mandating vehicle location tracking devices and emergency buttons in all public service vehicles. These two features were absent in the bus.

The police found that the Saraswati Vihar bus stand is situated about 700 metres from an integrated police booth of the Rani Bagh police station. Moving on the Outer Ring Road, the bus allegedly went by the Raj Park police booth and reached the Peeragarhi junction, where another police booth was situated.

According to the report, on the alleged route, at least five police officers were present at the junction. From the junction, the bus allegedly took the Delhi-Rohtak Road towards the Nangloi railway station and was eventually parked nearby. The alleged route had several CCTV cameras.

A police official said that "thousands of vehicles take the same route"; the officials could not hear any screams. The investigation revealed that the two accused had valid permits obtained by the company for operating interstate buses.
